Financial Coach

My name is Kathy Cuevas, and I’m passionate about helping others take control of their finances and build a secure future. I’ve had a unique journey that’s shaped the way I approach personal finance, and I want to share that with you.

I was raised by my single mother, a dedicated single parent, who worked tirelessly as a housekeeper to support us. Despite facing many challenges, including becoming disabled and relying on social services, my mother instilled in me the importance of hard work and perseverance. Thanks to her sacrifices, I was able to graduate high school and attend college on full financial aid, becoming the first in both my immediate and extended family to do so.

I later earned two teaching credentials, including special education, and completed my Master’s degree—all while working full time and without taking out any loans. I am
proud of my education, and it’s been a key part of my journey.

For over 13 years, I taught personal finance in high school and had the privilege of developing an advanced curriculum that was both rigorous and practical. My students learned everything from budgeting, credit, and banking to investing through the Stock Market Game. They also gained hands-on experience by writing business plans and pitching their ideas as if they were applying for a business loan.

In addition to my teaching career, I’ve been investing in the stock market for more than 20 years and own and manage several rental properties. I’ve also passed the Series 6 & 62 Security exams and have facilitated two of Dave Ramsey’s courses, including Financial Peace University, at my church.

I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Business and a Master’s in Education, and I’ve had the privilege of helping friends and family with budgeting, debt repayment, and retirement planning through their employer’s retirement plans.

The financial mistakes I’ve made in my own life have driven me to help others avoid the same pitfalls. I am deeply committed to using my knowledge and experience to guide individuals and families toward financial success.

One of my greatest sources of pride is my mother, who raised us in the Christian faith. Her unwavering strength and faith in God were a constant source of support through the many challenges we/I faced. I carry her lessons with me every day, and they inspire the work I do now.
